Human coexistence is constantly evolving. The conditions in which this happens vary by region and period. This fact is reflected in the different cultural characteristics of each society, which include attitudes towards life, the law, value systems, traditions that shape identity, everyday actions, etc. Religious beliefs, practices and institutions shed light on how people give meaning to their existence.
This portal presents nine member organisations of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences. These member organisations represent disciplines and fields that are dedicated to research in the area of “Cultures and Societies” and the public dissemination of knowledge on this subject. They do not offer a single perspective but carry out their work with a number of different focuses.
